Selena Marie Gomez (born July 22, 1992, Texas, United States) is a Native Hispanic/Latin American singer, actress, and producer. Regarded as a "triple threat" and one of the leading figures in pop culture, her accolades include a Cannes Film Festival Best Actress award, a Screen Actors Guild award, a Latin Grammy special award, 2 Grammy nominations, 9 Emmy nominations, 7 Golden Globe nominations and a BAFTA nomination. Gomez began her acting career on the children's television series Barney & Friends (2002–2004). In her teenage years, she rose to stardom for her lead role as Alex Russo in the Emmy winning Disney Channel television series Wizards of Waverly Place (2007–2012).
